Los Angeles, CA — November 7, 2025 — This Veterans Day, a new national campaign is shining a light on the untold stories of U.S. veterans whose service was erased from history. The T.R.U.T.H. Initiative, which stands for Teach erased histories, Restore legacies, Uncover systemic oppression, Triumph over historical amnesia, and Honor forgotten heroes, is a national nonprofit storytelling and educational campaign dedicated to confronting the historical whitewashing of America’s military past.
“Entire generations of heroes — Black, Indigenous, Latino, Asian American, women, and LGBTQ+ veterans — were written out of the record,” says founder and veteran storyteller Michael Gordon Bennett. “The T.R.U.T.H. Initiative exists to put them back where they belong: at the center of our national story.”
Through film, education, and public outreach, the Initiative seeks to reverse decades of systemic erasure. Its flagship project, Barrage, dramatizes the real-life story of the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion — the only all-Black combat unit to land on D-Day — and honors heroes like Medic Waverly B. Woodson Jr., who in 2024 received the Distinguished Service Cross nearly 80 years after his lifesaving actions on Omaha Beach.
“The stories we tell about our nation’s defenders shape our identity,” Bennett adds. “Telling the truth isn’t just remembrance — it’s restoration.”
In addition to Barrage, the T.R.U.T.H. Initiative is developing educational materials, veteran engagement programs, and collaborative partnerships with schools, museums, and military organizations nationwide. The Initiative operates under fiscal sponsorship from Fractured Atlas, enabling tax-deductible support for its programming and production efforts.
